Repair, checking, and calibration (in-house servicing)

  1. Performed only in response to a request for ISO documentation, instrument error certification test, or individual unit certification test.
  2. Diagnosis is based on standards determined in-house by Rion.
  3. When a part is replaced for repair, the old defective part is retained by Rion.
  4. With regard to calibration, if the target product includes a sensor as a major part, the calibration process for the sensor, or for the unit with integrated sensor, may be performed as required at Rion Service Center's standard laboratory whose data are traceable to the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology and the Japan Electric Meters Inspection Corporation (JEMIC).
  5. The costs for producing ISO documentation and test records are not included in the normal fee structure.
  6. If a product that has undergone the instrument error certification test (sound level meters: valid for 5 years; vibration level meters: valid for 6 years), or the individual unit certification test (level recorders: valid 3 years) requires repair other than a light repair as defined by the Measurement Law or other simple repair, the product will lose its certification. In this case, renewed certification testing is required.
For products that are type certified according to the Measurement Law or which require inspection testing, Rion will perform the required check/adjustment/calibration procedures and the steps for obtaining certification.
  7. The warranty period is 3 months. If the same problem occurs within 3 months after completion of check/repair, it will be remedied free of charge.

On-site servicing

The normal format for the check/repair service is to be performed in-house at Rion. However, for permanently installed monitoring equipment or other non-movable equipment only, an on-site checking/repair service is available.
  1. If a problem cannot be solved on-site, transport to Rion may have to be arranged in consultation with the customer.
  2. In this case, a cost quotation will be produced first. Scheduling will also be determined in consultation with the customer and is subject to technical staff availability as well as materials and parts availability.
  3. The warranty period is 3 months. If the same problem occurs within 3 months after completion of check/repair, it will be remedied free of charge.

Yearly maintenance contract service

A contract based yearly maintenance service is available, aimed at ensuring stable product and system performance and maintain high uptime ratio.
  1. Check procedures are based on contract conditions and the specifications of the product.
  2. If a product under contract develops a problem, repair will be carried out with priority over regular on-site service.

Periodic maintenance contract service

In this case, instead of a yearly maintenance contract, a spot maintenance contract is concluded. Depending on requirements, the customer can choose from a menu of scheduled service options.
  1. Check procedures are based on contract conditions and the specifications of the product.
  2. Repair conditions are the same as for the on-site repair service.

Instrument error test service

  1. This service comprises check/adjustment, calibration, and testing for the instrument error test to be performed every five years according to the Japan Measurement Law.
  2. For permanently installed monitoring equipment or other non-movable equipment, the customer can specify a site. Rion will then temporarily uninstall the equipment from that site, perform check/adjustment, calibration, and testing, and re-install the equipment after certification has been obtained. Temporary replacement equipment will be provided on a loan basis, to avoid data loss.
  3. The cost is determined on an individual quotation basis.

Installation/adjustment and removal service

  1. This service covers installation and later removal of noise measuring equipment or similar at a site specified by the customer.
  2. Before installation, Rion will also assist in surveying suitable sites.
  3. After installation, Rion will also assist in adjustment and data verification.
  4. The cost is determined on an individual quotation basis.

About ISO documentation

The following types of ISO documentation can be provided by Rion.
  1. Calibration certificate
A document that certifies that the reference equipment used for calibration is traceable to the higher standards of the respective official calibration bodies in various countries, affiliated either with a national standards institute or the International Committee on Weights and Measures. The document also certifies that this reference equipment was used by Rion according to its operation standard for calibration work. For some items that are not specified by a higher standard such as a national standard, Rion will designate its own reference equipment and carry out calibration according to its operation standard for calibration work. If applicable, this will also be stated in the document.
  2. Traceability system chart
A document that shows in graphical form how calibration of the respective product is linked to national standards or other higher standards.
  3. Test certificate or calibration certificate of cross-checking reference equipment
A copy of the test certificate prepared by the manufacturer of the reference equipment used by Rion as the top-level company-internal reference, demonstrating that the manufacturer has a calibration system that is traceable to an official calibration body or a national standards institute.
